standing at the Bar seems scarcely long enough
to justify his appt. for some years.
As to other remuneration, since he doesn't

With reference to my Confidential Despatch of
the 30th. of July, 1912, I have the honour to inform you that a question has arisen with r. C. G. Alabaster as to the form the recognition of his services in connection with what purported to be Sir F. Piggott's revision of the Ordinances of the Colony, should
take.

When I arrived in the Colony in July of last year I found that Lr. Alabaster, then acting as Attorney-General, was engaged in his capacity of Attorney-General, in revising the scrutinies of Heads of Departments, who were examining the Ordinancer concerning their departments with a view to correcting mistakes which had crept into Sir F. Piggott's revision; and in himself scrutinising other Ordinances not allocated to the scrutiny of
Heads of Departments.

I also found that Sir F. Pigott's work had been so badly done that it was necessary to reprint the whole of dis revised edition, and as I reported in my Despatch under refer- -ence I appointed lir. Alabaster to complete the revision for this purpose. I selected Mir. Alabaster because he was acting as Attorney - -General; because he was already engaged on the work; and because I anticipated that for some little time to come he would not be
